Dynamic Hope Schools develops Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) for each student consisting of academic instruction and behavioral support to best serve their specific needs.
Our behavioral team is comprised of board certified behavioral analysts, behavior specialists, registered behavioral technicians and behavior assistants. Our schools are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with heavy emphasis on data collection. Our students have access to a wide range of services and programs to support their growth and success as a student and member of the community.
These are some teaching strategies used at Dynamic Hope Schools:
Some of the teaching methods used at Dynamic Hope Schools include:
In order to replace or reduce the onset of inappropriate behaviors, we use Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methods to address a wide range of behaviors and social skills. Through the use of different strategies, our goals are:
Following an Applied Behavioral Assessment and the function causing challenging behavior is identified, a Positive Behavioral Intervention Plan (PBIP) is developed for each student.
A PBIP is a very detailed plan that is based on information gathered during the Functional Assessment. It provides support and strategies that can be used to reduce the problematic behavior and replace it with something else that is more socially acceptable. The Positive Behavior Intervention Plan lists many recommendations and strategies to be used.
At Dynamic Hope Schools, life skills training is an important goal for students of all ages. Elementary students are exposed to toilet training, hygiene training such as tooth brushing, washing hands and respecting other student’s space. Middle school students start learning to work in groups, to maintain good grooming habits, and to respect other’s privacy. Once students reach their 12-16 birthday they start to be introduced to pre-vocational training that ultimately will lead them to obtain supportive or competitive employment. Students receive job training on campus and follow specific criteria which in turn provides them with an opportunity to develop like skills such as maintaining a budget and using a bank account. Adult and peer coaching strategies are used throughout all phases of life skills training.
All of our staff are trained in crisis communication and de-escalation techniques conducted by certified trainers in Pro Act. Pro-ACT® provides a framework of principles that guide critical thinking and establish parameters within which to exercise professional judgment.
The framework is based upon the premise that employees who have developed a systematic approach to intervention during incidents of potential assault are less likely to injure or be injured than those who have not. It incorporates professionalism, preparation, assessment and crisis communication.
Emergency Response
Pro-ACT® methods are not legitimate substitutes for individual intervention plans. Pro-ACT® assumes that there is a reasonable plan in place for each person receiving services, which anticipates problematic situations. Pro-ACT® principles are intended to augment these reasonable plans.
Individual Differences
Pro-ACT® is designed to build confidence in professionals, regardless of individual abilities, limitations, or gender. The course is designed to provide adequate thinking and movement skills to enable staff of various strengths and abilities to remain safe in the workplace. It is further assumed that individuals receiving services will be less anxious and more secure when they also believe that everyone working with them is able to work in a competent and safe manner.
Rights
Pro-ACT® training enhances personal safety within the context of individual rights. Having a disability that sometimes manifests itself in assaultive behavior does not automatically deprive an individual of her or his rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Equally, the rights of individuals with disabilities should at no time deprive employees of their rights.
